What an AI readiness assessment should actually produce

Readiness assessments have a reputation problem, and it is deserved. Too many produce a radar chart, a maturity level and a list of technologies, none of which tell you what to do on Monday.

A useful assessment ends with a register: specific use-cases, each tied to a process you actually run, each with an estimate of effort, cost, expected return and the risk profile attached. It says which one to do first and why, and it says which ones to refuse.

It should also be honest about the prerequisites. If your order data lives in three systems that disagree, the correct first initiative may be reconciliation rather than intelligence. Consultants who never recommend the unexciting option are selling, not advising.
